Proper Home Security Would Have Ended the Bling Ring’s Crime Spree

Article by Jon Jacobson

More than likely, you never thought the homes of affluent celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, Audrina Patridge, Brian Austin Green, Ashley Tisdale, or Rachel Bilson would ever be robbed. But that’s exactly what happened from 2008-2009, and moreover it was done by just a handful of teenage kids. Those cunning teenagers have been dubbed both the “Bling Ring” and the “Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch,” but in reality these kids should have never been able to rob the homes of famous celebrities who can afford to secure their homes. Clearly, that the celebrities were vulnerable to the thefts because they lacked quality home security measures, which are so easy to get that even regular Americans can afford to protect their homes against thefts. These tricky teens researched as much as they could online about these celebrities. Their research was so thorough, they knew the layout of the homes they entered and they knew when the celebrities were going to leave their homes vacant. And although the victims were celebrities and apparently their information wasn’t too difficult for them to find, similar information about virtually everyone is accessible online. The reduction of online privacy over the past decade has meant that if someone simply has your name, they can look up your address online. Moreover, if they have your email address, they can likely find your facebook profile or twitter account, where you probably leave a lot of information about where you are and what you’re doing. And if you’re telling the world about how you’re enjoying a lovely night out on the town or a quiet vacation, you better have a good home alarm system installed to protect you against unwanted break-ins.The teenage thieves violent criminals who threatened the celebrities’ safety, and if they had been confronted with some serious home security, they probably would have been too scared to carry out their crimes. Instead though, it was almost as if the celebrities gave them easy access to their homes. Paris Hilton, who was the first victim in their string of crimes, had even left a key under the mat of her front door, which certainly helped enable the thieves to steal more than 80 pieces of her priceless jewelry! If you have one sitting under your doormat, now is the perfect time to go remove that key and put it in a safe place, where petty thieves won’t think to look. The real break in the case, and the reason the teenagers were caught, was that Audrina Patridge had a video surveillance system that recorded images of their faces. Thankfully she had installed a camera system, but if these celebrities had simply had quality home alarm systems installed and armed in their homes, authorities would have responded to the break-ins immediately, and the ” Hollywood Hills Burglar Bunch” wouldn’t have been able to continue their joyride of crime. In the end, they were able to steal more than million worth of expensive luxury items from these celebrities!
